Set in the heart of Boyle Heights and Downtown, Purgatory Pizza is a great place to go on a nice daytime ride. We rode our scooters down here on a sunny L.A. afternoon, just in time to catch some street and graffiti artists working on a huge production on the outside of the shop. Inside, LOUIS painted Godard quotes throughout the walls, with childlike landscapes of the city and professions of love to a mysterious girlfriend. The pizza itself was delicious, thin crust and New York style to the max. Purgatory offers vegan and vegetarian options, and we personally recommend the “Midnight in the Garden” pizza with pesto added. The pizzas are made by cute hipster boys, and good music blares from the kitchen. This area of downtown has lots of graffiti productions to look at, a Gold Line stop conveniently located directly in front of the shop, and the best part: you can bring your own beers and wines. Just one more reason to love our city of angels.*
